Hey y’all! I’m BB Mitchem. I am eighteen years old, and I am from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I go to the University of Alabama, and I am majoring in Biology with a Pre-Dental concentration. I am a member of Sigma Kappa, the Alpha Omega chapter. I have been playing drums for six years and have been entering the Hit Like a Girl drum contest for five years. When I first picked up the sticks, I was a little girl who was unsure of herself, wondering if drumming was for her. Now, over six years later, I have grown into the woman that I am today, who has found her voice through drumming. Being a female drummer, I strive to serve as an inspiration to women of all ages who wish to start playing drums, or who may feel intimidated. Drumming is for everyone; it is a universal language. This is my fifth year entering Hit Like a Girl, so this year I wanted my entry to show me and my personality more than my past entries. I chose to cover JACK by HARDY because HARDY is such a musical influence and overall inspiration of mine, so I felt by choosing this song, I achieved my goal of showing myself through my playing and performance. Over the years, I have gained various musical inspirations. My biggest musical inspirations are my drumming mentor and friend, Pat Gerasia (The Violent), Mike Protich and Dave McGarry (The Violent), HARDY, Morgan Wallen, ERNEST, Elvis Presley, Lainey Wilson, Duran Duran, 3 Doors Down, and The Beatles.
I want to thank God for not only giving me this opportunity, but for everything because without Him, I am nothing. I also want to thank my parents for being there for me and for the consistent love and support. I want to thank my drumming mentor, Pat Gerasia for always encouraging me, helping me tap into my true potential, and for being such a great friend over the years. I lastly want to thank those who have become my family over the years, blood does not make you family, love and loyalty does. And, as always, peace, rock on, God’s Blessings, and create YOUR own magic!
