Hi! I’m known by the name JrZX on my YouTube channel! I’m quite ashamed to say that I’ve been playing drums for over 10 years now but I haven’t started putting effort and learning drums seriously till 3 years ago, as before that, I had my priorities on martial arts. Actually, I don’t remember when I started to like drumming but my mother said that I loved watching drum performances since I was in kindergarten. The motivation to learn drums seriously all came about when a video of MightyMouseDex’s drum cover popped up on YouTube one day. I was so impressed and from that day on, I decided that I want to be as good as him. Since then, I have been practicing drums seriously and I started learning songs. I also started watching drum covers from various YouTubers and learning from them. On May 2021, I decided to open a YouTube account to upload my drum covers. YouTube has now become a platform for me to learn from all kinds of awesome drummers, to record and upload drum covers, and to get motivated by the wholesome drummers of the YouTube community. Now, drumming has become an essential part of my life. It is something that I really enjoy to do and something that I can rely on for relieving stress. It is also brings so much joy to me when I finally managed to finish learning a song after so much hard work and practice. To be honest, drumming really helps me to cope with life, especially during the pandemic.

For this video, I am uploading a drum cover of Avenged Sevenfold’s Nightmare. Avenged Sevenfold is the band that introduced me to metal. I got to know this band when I watched Tobines’ Nightmare drum cover. At that time, I told myself that my goal is to learn this song after I get my double pedal. It is one of my biggest goals to learn this song. So I decided to post a drum cover of this song for the contest, as this song carries quite a significant meaning to me. (And also, my YouTube friends commented that my A7x drum covers are the best, so it’s a double bonus!)

I don’t have a specific band/drummer influence but I am more into the rock and metal genre. My favourite bands include Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Thousand Foot Krutch, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, and Disturbed, just to name a few.

As I love drums, my mother has made the store room into my small mini studio. However, we don’t really have extra budget for all the filming equipment so I am determined to produce the best videos I can through “budget filming”, with just using my phone for filming and no other equipment such as microphones. I hope I can inspire others that good quality videos can also be made without expensive equipment (although the qualities of my videos aren’t the best).

To be honest, I didn’t know about this competition till I stumbled on a promotion video on YouTube 3 weeks ago. I like joining competitions as I am a really competitive person and I want to unlock as many achievements as I can, so here I am!
