Hello, my name is Mindy from Singapore! People’s first impression was always that I am a quiet and innocent girl and drumming broke that false image of me, which I loved whenever they were surprised to know that I drum. I first started learning drums when I was 13 and was very inspired by my female drummer teacher. When she left teaching to join her full-time band, I started self-learning through Youtube and had fallen in love with the rock genre because it’s so enjoyable jamming to catchy and energetic songs, which really helped me to de-stress.
I chose Rush-The Spirit Of Radio to challenge myself since it’s a relatively fast prog rock song with different dynamics and there are opportunities for me to experiment with sporadic toms variations. Now as a Grade 4 20 y/o drummer, I’m glad to find myself another female drummer teacher who inspires and encouraged me to participate in this contest as a way of gaining experience and trying my luck! I will constantly tell myself to persevere till I find myself a stage to perform and make that 13-year-old me proud of where I am now! 🙂
