Hi, my name is Sasha. I am 9 years old from the UK. I started to play drums 4 and half years ago. I chose drums, because I loved Animal from the Muppet. He was crazy and I wanted to have fun like him. Since then, music has been a part of my life and I enjoy challenges, progress and friendship through drumming.
This is my 2nd year to enter this contest, and I chose a drum cover of “Giorgio by Moroder” by Daft Punk. This song was released in 2013, the very year I was born, and drums were played by the amazing Omar Hakim. When I first heard this song, I thought it was very complicated and impossible for me to play. However, I was very determined to learn this piece because I loved it so much. I hope this performance showcases my determination, love and passion to drumming.
I listen to and play any genres of music, and I don’t have any favourite styles yet. My favourite drummer is Phil Collins, but there are so many other musicians I admire. In 2022/23, I was particularly inspired through live performance. I went to Download Festival and watched many great performances like Ben Johnston from Biffy Clyro, Jen Ledger from Skillet and Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden. I was also hugely inspired watching Benny Greb, Mike Miley from Rival Sons and Alice Angliss, percussionist from Six the Musical in the West End. I cannot wait to discover many more musicians. One day, I want to be like them and play on stage to inspire others.
I am very happy to be a part of this contest again to celebrate female drummers and encourage and inspire each other. Drumming community is the best and I would like to contribute to the community, and make many more drumming friends all over the world.
